American Bubble Gum

I started designing websites in my bedroom around the age of 13, starting off with my first website project, about Mandy Moore, an American Singer & Actress. During that development time I was able to not only have Mandy visit my ‘fan-site’ and send a message of thanks, amass over 1,000,000 hits in a short two year period but also work with Warner Bros to promote Mandy’s ‘A Walk to Remember’ film, receiving some signed items to boot! A pretty cool start to a career and also it help give me loads of valuable experience of working with global companies.

Print, Faster…

My first full time job was working for the high-street printers ‘ProntaPrint’. This was a steep learning curve into actual live face-to-face client engagement. I worked with some large local companies during this time period. Creating Fast Food Menus, Tribute Act Posters, Flyers for properties near Disney World, it was all in a days work.

Just Happy People

Next I moved to JHP Group, a national training provider during my early years as a designer. Welcomed into a bunch of really nice & talented individuals. Whilst at JHP I worked as Junior to a Senior Designer before moving into the higher role later in my time at JHP. I was also very fortunate to win an award whilst there and work with some large companies & organisations such as o2, RBS, Hobby Craft, the MOD and Home-serve amongst many others.

Muscle Mass for the Fingers

In 2009 I made the move to H&B, a move that not only took me closer to home but also gave me the chance to explore the retail market place, fast moving consumer goods. Working for NBTY business taught me a lot about retail, working to produce marketing promotions for H&B, the sister company ‘Julian Graves’ & ‘GNC’. There were many design highlights during this time from looking at store redesign work in Richmond, working monthly POS promotion campaign designs to producing the in-store marketing POS for Elizabeth Hurley’s new organic bars.

The Saint of Nicolas

Not to be Pretentious”]I was lucky that during my day jobs, I’d been fortunate to build up some great freelance clients, however balancing a day job with working to keep freelance clients happy is a fine margin, So I took the leap of faith to start on my own. The name ‘Saint Nicolas’ came from testimonials received by two different clients, who were thankful for how I’d helped them in their hour of need – the name stuck, but I don’t like the pretentious of it! – It also had a double meaning though, as I was raised in the estate of Saint Nicolas, so you know apples & oranges…

Supplementing the Sports

About 6 months after I setup my own company I was approached by a client who I had worked with for a number of years that had a lead to Sports Direct. They were looking to re-brand their Sports Nutrition range which hadn’t dated well. We set off to design over 70 different sports nutrition and supplement label & packaging designs. Following this initial work, we then looked to develop up branding ideas for many of the Sports Direct subsidiaries and created visual campaigns prototype work for USA-Pro (Gemma Atkinson), Dunlop and Karrimor amongst many design works for the brand.

Football, for everyone

Another great experience I had was working with RightToPlay and Chelsea Football Club to design their eBay Shop identity for their charity partnership Working for RightToPlay, Chelsea’s official Charity partner at the time, we produced a marketing campaign for eBay design to give fans the chance to play at Stamford Bridge. Up for auction were 22 playing places & lots of memorabilia. Being a massive football nut, this was a great project to work and the end result helped RightToPlay make lots of money for their great causes.
